Hi,
I recently gave a gmat mock and found 5 rc's with 3 questions each (if not mistaken) and my entire verbal section was ruined.
Kindly guide in sucha situation
1)Is it advisable to leave a rc set?
2)What time should be spent doing each rc+ question individually in such a situation. What should be the time bifurcated to each rc and question answering seperately
Kindly guide.
Hi kk12,
On the official GMAT, most likely you will find 4 RC passages, 2 of them would be long passages and have 4 questions each and the remaining 2 will be short passages with 3 questions each.
Make sure you solve mock CATs that are representative of the official GMAT.
The RC questions are there in the test, because they are meant to be done in the time frame
You need a lot of practice and some strategies to solve the question.
You can try doing the following strategies:
1. Pay attention to the first and the last lines of each paragraph
2. Pay attention to the transition words.
3. Make a passage map (although this is time consuming, but it makes sure that you understand the passage properly)
Coming to your questions:
1. Leaving a passage entirely should be the last option and you should not consider it during your preparation.
Instead try and increase your speed on RC. By leaving you always run the risk of getting all the questions wrong and this can be very detrimental to your score.
2. For RC, you should target 2 mins per question i.e. 6-7 minutes for reading and solving questions for a short passage and 8-9 minutes for a longer one
What is your comfort level with the other two sections SC and CR?
Are you following and preparatory course?
When are you planning to take the GMAT?
