REAL mba's being successful entrepreneurs - WHO and HOW? [#permalink]
08 Jun 2010, 02:14
Thought I'd share this video with you, about a Cass MBA who's set up over 11 businesses, here he's talking about his latest venture 'stuffed animals media' - he seems like a really switched on guy and although it's really complicated the business looks like a good idea! Does anyone else have any good examples of entrepreneurial MBAs? http://www.businessbecause.com/mba-entr ... giwood.htmActually there's a whole section dedicated to them on this site, BusinessBecause.com.

There are tons of examples - for example, look at the MIT 100K challenges and the Chicago Booth New Venture Challenge. Beyond that, there are numerous successful entrepreneurs from each top school each year, ranging from companies like Invisiline at Stanford, Flyswat at Booth, and droves of others. To be honest, your question is a bit vague, at least in the sense, are you most curious about MBAs that have started companies and have had large exits, or MBAs who have simply started several companies. For instance, I'm in an MBA program, have started 3 healthcare business, and raised over $20 million in venture and angel financing...and there are a few other similar stories at my school (Booth) - I'd expect that similar stories are at least as common at Haas, MIT, and Stanford.
Just hunt around a bit - but a good place to start are the MBA business plan competitions - for obvious reasons. The Rice competition is huge.

Thanks fluidian, I know there are tons of examples and the stats are high for MBA's - but it's nice to hear examples of people who've done it themselves (like you), it's good to hear individual stories and details - 3 healthcare businesses - that's interesting in itself!
I was hoping people would share their stories here but perhaps not the right forum/website for it.
I know the question was vague but actually I'm interested to hear from anyone, multiple start up companies/large exits included...I just enjoy reading stories of MBA's who've gone for it and been successful as an entrepreneur (and those that haven't), not only is it inspirational but it also puts a story to a statistic?
