The researchers speculate that this may be because fruits and vegetables are rich in folic acid. Low levels of folic acid are associated with high levels of homocysteine, an amino acid that contributes to blocked arteries.
Which one of the following statements is most strongly supported by the information above?
(A) An increased risk of stroke is correlated with low levels of homocysteine.
(B) A decreased risk of stroke is correlated with increased levels of folic acid.
(C) An increased propensity for blocked arteries is correlated with decreased levels of homocysteine.

I don't know how to judge it on a 800 point scale, but as per verbal scale i guess it would be around 30-33.

Argument: Low levels of F lead to high levels of H which leads to blocked arteries. Since Fruit is high in F it reduces risk of stroke.

This boils down to: Fruit reduces risk of stroke because it is high in Folic acid.

If this is the case, then high levels of folic acid should reduce risk of stroke, otherwise the argument above is flawed. After all, how could that argument be made if "low risk of stroke is NOT associated with increased folic acid?"

A - Opposite of what we are told. Passage says high levels of H lead lead to Heart attack. (well to blocked arteries, but we have to assume blocked arteries and heart attacks are interchangeable here).

C - Same exact thing as A
D - Opp again. We are told HIGH levels of F are correlated with low risk of heart attack.
E - Scope; We don't know COMPLETE PREVENTION, just that we can REDUCE our risk.

Which one of the following statements is most strongly supported by the information above?

The stimulus asks us to find the conclusion to the premise above. The premise states that recent research point out the chances of getting a stroke can be reduced by the increased consumption of fruits and vegetables. The theory as to why this is true is because fruits and vegetables are rich in folic acid. Low levels of folic acid are associated to high levels of an amino acid that causes blocked arteries.


(A) An increased risk of stroke is correlated with low levels of homocysteine.
This is the opposite of what the premise states. Homocysteine increases the chances of a stroke.

(B) A decreased risk of stroke is correlated with increased levels of folic acid.
Fruits and Vegetables reduce the chances of getting a stroke. Fruits and vegetables are rich in folic acid. Low levels of folic acid = increased levels of homocysteine, which can cause a stroke. Thus eating a high folic acid diet can reduce strokes.

(C) An increased propensity for blocked arteries is correlated with decreased levels of homocysteine.
If anything, an increase level of homocysteine will cause blocked arteries

(D) A decreased propensity for blocked arteries is correlated with low levels of folic acid.
It should be a high level of folic acid.

(E) Stroke is prevented by ingestion of folic acid in quantities sufficient to prevent a decline in the levels of homocysteine.
This is too much of an extreme judgement. We only know that folic acid can reduce the chances, not prevent.
