Recommendation letters [#permalink]
22 Aug 2006, 19:38
I have quick question relating to the recommendation letters. Most schools require two letters and have a specific questionaire. Almost all of these forms ask what the professional relationship is to the applicant in some way or another. Should I only have a person with whom I have been exposed to in a professional environment write these rec forms? One person that I know personally quite well works for one of the institutions that I'm planning on applying to. I think having her write one of my rec letters would be a great. However, she has no experience with me professionally. My second letter would be from a former work supervisor. Can someone please tell me whether this is advisable or should my rec letters only be completed by someone that I have worked with? Thx

I'd be skeptical of a letter that came from someone you didnt work with in some capacity.
I.e. Professionally, or even extracurricular.....
Keep in mind, they have to talk about you for 2-3 pages... they have to tell the adcom abotu your leadership skills, team orientation, analytical ability, diversity, style, etc.....
Think of someone you know personally and ask yourself if you can think of examples of each of those things that are impressive. Probably not.
