Recommenders' first language [#permalink]

After graduation, I've been working in Beijing. All of the companies have been multinationals, but my direct reports were always local Chinese with varying levels of English ability. The ones that I've talked to about writing my LORs have been very supportive and all have wonderful things to say. However, some of them have hinted that they may not be able to write a very strong LOR in English.
I'm sure that this is a problem many folks on this board have had as well: when your supervisor's English ability is not very strong. Please, any thoughts? Of course there are the optional explanatory essays, but are there other options?
Has anyone had a recommender write their letter in another language and provide a translation?

Are you able to translate the recommendation yourself? If not I'd pay for a translation, I guess just a letter is not so expensive.
