Regarding Letter of Recommendation [#permalink]
27 Oct 2010, 13:31
1.Can Supervisors submit their letters of recommendation even after the deadline? Do recommendors have to respond within dealines even if you sent the invite link from the application within the deadline.? Or can they submit even after the deadline, I guess its within the deadline but checking.
2. How many words can a LOR be?
3.Another question When schools say Nov 1 is the deadline, does it mean end of the day or till 5 in the evening?
Thanks.

1. Usually by the deadline, although I've heard of schools allowing a day's worth of time leeway for recommenders to submit. Some schools will bump you to the next round though. 2. The length will typically be specified by the school. 3. Schools will typically have a time associated with their deadlines, which is the time you should use.

LBS actually gives each recommender up to 1 week after the deadline to submit the reco. But I believe most US schools don't have a grace period. Best to check with each school.

Many schools have a grace period, but they are all different as some do not. Best to get those in by the deadline, of course.

Thanks and Kudos. I was checking for Duke deadline, as my recommendors may feel rushed.

hi BlueRobin, there are no absolute answers to your questions. different schools have different instructions for the recommenders. some schools allow for the LOR to arrive after the deadline and some don't. some schools have specific word limits for the LOR and some don't. it's important to read the instructions carefully. Regarding the exact hour of the deadline, i think that in most schools it is 5:00pm, but they usually mention it on their website or on the application, just check.
hope this helps... good luck!
