Repplicant to apply R2 or wait [#permalink] New post 01 Jan 2014, 20:02
Hi,
I applied to Wharton 2 years in a row for admission to Fall 2011 and Fall 2012. I gained an interview for Fall 2011 that I didn't convert but was dinged straightaway for Fall 2012. I only applied to top few or bust and didn't apply to any school last year.

Now 2 years later, I've moved on to a new job and have 1 new recommendation from an EC. However, for the 2nd recommendation, I'll have to use someone who also recommended me 2 years ago and the content is going to be pretty much the same (former employer).

My essays and app is ready for W (the only school I have time to apply to this year and would be happy to matric if accepted), but I'm in a fix if I should apply with the same recommendation with which is was dinged twice. As much as I'd hate to wait any longer (older applicant in 30s), I feel that I may get dinged again and would lose any shot next year. My other option is to wait and apply R1 next year with a new 2nd recommender. I'll appreciate your insights. Thanks.

Is there evidence that a recommender being same as in the previous 2 applications going to hurt me significantly?

Also Wharton has apparently a very large word limit for recommender questions with respect to other schools -- 500 words each for 3 questions is total 1500 words. Can a recommender write about 200 words for each 500 word recommender question for W?
I doubt a recommender will write so much more when you compare it to equivalent schools such as total 500 words of HBS.

Hey there,
Soooo a few pieces of advice:
1. Make sure Wharton knows that they are the ONE and ONLY school you are applying to, and that you will 100% for sure matriculate if accepted (You can admit your previous mistake if it was one)
2. You MAY use the same recommender, but NOT the same recommendation. It seems lazy.
3. You should try your best to urge your recommender to use the full limit of the word count. This is one way Wharton will see that this dude just LOVES you. Becuase he is putting in soooo much effort to make sure you get in!
4. Apply NOW!

:)

And Good Luck!
