Representation in a local community board is based on the community’s population, with 25 board members representing the first 500,000 people, and each additional board member representing an additional 30,000 people. Is the population of the town less than 500,000?
(1) There were 23 members on the community board. (2) If the population were three times as large, the community board would have had 51 members.

D
(1) sufficient (too simple, am i missing something?)
(2) sufficient. 51 members: 25 (representing 500K) + 26 (each representing 30K). (25*500K + 26*30K)/3 would be the current population size.

should be D.
stat 1 says that we have 23 members, this means pop is less than 500K. suff.
from stat 2, you can determine the population and see if its larger or smaller than 500K. suff.

The correct answer is D.
I struggled with the simplicity of the first statement.
