Aritro9782,

Your profile is pretty good overall. Academics are fair, EC are pretty strong, and the GMAT score is fantastic.

The issues that you will have to work on include being an IIM (Indian/IT/Male) :-). Sometimes being from this big applicant pool can work to your disadvantage. Another issue might be the disjoint career path -> Pharma to IT to MBA....?

How successful you will be in your applications depends on your target schools! Work to make sure that specific points in your applications are identified and corrected to make sure your otherwise good profile comes out strongly. It is your story that will ultimately make the difference, as I think the basics are all there.

I always encourage applicants from this pool that I help with applications to focus on differentiation, a clear career goal, and a strong story linking the two.

Hey thanks tons for the painstaking reply.....about the disjoint in career path, well here's the dope.....

I really wanted to study drug-designing from an awesome US univeristy, and so had taken GRE back in 2004.......scored 1510 on a scale of 1600, and the rest of the things were pretty favourable as well........however, I had to get into IT because I felt that it was time I stopped milikng my family financially (my father retired in 2004, and my mom's salary would have been, to put mildly, not substantial)......and yes, before I had taken GRE, I was recruited by Infosys, and I was one of the first pharmacy graduates (the first one ever from eastern India, I believe) to get in.......ever since 2005, I neither had the time nor the will to get back tp Pharmacy, because Mainframes had enthralled me by then (sounds impossible, but true story)....then, circa 2007, I broke into Computer Sciences Corp, one of the most prominent product companies in India back at that time.......there too, I had to reason with my HR who was reluctant to hire a Pharmacy graduate (he told me that there would be problems getting a visa with my profile)......long story short, that is how the Pharma to IT transmutation happened.....as for the IT to MBA aspiration, well, am an IIM, and that should pretty much be self-explanatory....

However, I never really detached myself from the GRE dreams.....I have been unofficially mentoring aspirants on-off since 2006 with their SOPs, essays and AWAs. Even interviewed for a faculty post with Jamboree (a GRE-GMAT academic service provider), and got through......but then I had to travel back to Kolkata.......

So that was it I guess.........the story I have........but thanks again for the evaluation......

Hmmmm......that does put things in perspective. I understand how these twists and turns came about now. You seem to be really good, though - the amount of stuff you have done is something not many can do. Also, the decision to stay back in India because of the reasons you state was also a brave one.

All the best with the apps! Happy to help if you need a perspective in anything else.

Yes, definitely. The schools you target will depend upon your career objectives, where you want to work post your MBA, and how much you want to spend.
