Re: Requesting Advice - Varying scores - got 610 in gmat prep :( [#permalink]
Hi, I took GMAT prep first CD test today. I got 610 (Q48 and V26). I have decided to push the date of test from Feb 25th to mid april .

I am planning to do Big OG twice, kaplan premier (70% remaining), GMAT club tests, questions, strategies and Verbal Manhattan again in next 4-6 weeks and take GMAT prep test again

Requesting forum members to please advise/suggest on strategy and approach.

Regards,
Sri

My suggestion would be to cover the material carefully and slower than you have so perhaps. That means stop from time to time and do review of what you have learned the day before before you start on anything new.

Also take notes while you are studying. If you find something interesting - WRITE IT DOWN!

If you find something you don't know - RESEARCH IT!

And finally, if you have ability, get MGMAT Roadmap.

I must say, you and I started studying for the GMAT at nearly the same date and you have gone through way more than I did. I did lose around 15 days of studying because I got really ill and had high fever.

To paint the picture for you, I have gone through all the three official guides and MGMAT guides with the exception of RC (just a few dozen problems left). I know that everyone has a different way of studying but your way of studying is very intense and it is definitely a plus for you. However, do not forget to reflect on materials, go over your mistakes in the error log. You do know what an error log is, right? When you do the problems, write down in say, Word document the problem number of the problem you did wrong in each guide. Try to determine what made you pick the wrong answer and then write it down next to the problem number. That will help you find out your weak areas. I think that at this point, once you realize what your weak areas are, go over the guides and do some problems. Start from easy and move on to the hard ones in the end.

You definitely have the mental strength, which is crucial. But do not overdo it and try to be more strategic. If you do a particular area really well, there is no need to read that section/problems all over again. Good luck!

p.s. I see that you are worried with the sudden downward trend. Do not underestimate the GMAT. What I mean exactly is that when you are tired, stressed out, distracted and what not, your score WILL decrease. Try to think of outside factors that could have affected you when doing the prep test.

Four hours of GMAT test affects your brain, so make sure you get enough sleep, have peace when doing the tests and even eat correctly (believe it or not). Take a long deep breath and be patient.

I will admit, from the first day I started studying it felt like an emotional roller coaster. At days I was very motivated, at other days I was extremely frustrated. However, I do have an evidence for myself that I am improving. It is all about patience and strategy.

Could you suggest some books which contain drills and problems in the range of 760 and above. Some suggested me Manhattan guide coupled with Total GMAT Math. And what about Extreme Maths Challenge (by the same Author). And do anybody of u have an idea about the EZ solutions..?
And if u can tell me some good verbal books, it would be awesome..
