Residents of an apartment complex are considering
two possible plans for collecting recyclable trash.
Plan 1-Residents will deposit recyclable trash in
municipal dumpsters located in the parking lot. The
trash will be collected on the first and the fifteenth
days of each month.

Plan 2-Residents will be given individual containers
for recyclable trash. The containers will be placed at
the curb twice a week for trash collection.

Which of the following points raised at a meeting of
the residents, if valid, would most favor one of the
recycling plans over the other?

(A) Residents will be required to exercise care in
separating recyclable trash from nonrecy-
clable trash.

(B) For trash recycling to be successful, residents
must separate recyclable bottles and cans
from recyclable paper products.

(C) Penalties will be levied against residents who
fail to sort their trash correctly.

(D) Individual recycling containers will need to be
made of a strong and durable material.

(E) Recyclable trash that is allowed to accumulate
for two weeks will attract rodents.

Answer : E

Eliminating all the choices, E remains to produce solidity to support the proposal 2. As it attracts rodents after two weeks, first prposal is ruled out.

Only one choice [#permalink] New post 21 Oct 2004, 06:13
E. None of the other choices looks like helping one plan over the other

When you say E you naturally prefer plan 2.

I am stuck between C and E. I agree with answer e, but these questions give me problems. Ans C would be more valid as it holds the individuals accountable for their actions. How wou you rule this out.

Hey maneesh same for me, i do stick between "C" and "E". However, "E" is more preferable because the main issue here is to succeed at effective collection of recycleable trash and not to catch the person whoever fails to sort his/her trash.
See the first sentence of the stem:
Quote:
Residents of an apartment complex are considering
two possible plans for collecting recyclable trash.

hope it helps

OA is E. I had chosen C and got it wrong....

Agree that e is definitely one answer....

But my rationale for C was....(ok while speed reading I overlooked the difference in the freq of collection between plans 1 and 2) ...that the difference between the plans is that
plan 1: everyone puts their rubbish into a common dumpster
plan 2: each house has its own individual rubbish can.

Clearly if we need to catch culprits....plan 2 beats plan 1 and hence C.

Whats the flaw with this logic?
