Resolve the paradox Raisins(R) are made by drying grapes(G) [#permalink]

Resolve the paradox
Raisins(R) are made by drying grapes(G) in the sun. Although some of the sugar in the grapes is caramelized in the process, nothing is added. Moreover, the only thing removed from the grapes is the water that evaporates during the drying and water contains no calories or nutrients. The fact that raisins contain more iron par calorie than grapes do is thus puzzling.
a. Since G are bigger than R, it takes several bunch of G to provide same amt of iron as a handful of R. b. Caramelized sugar cannot be digested, so its calorie do not count towards the calorie contents of R. c. The body can absorb iron and other nutrients more quickly from G because of relatively high water contents of G. d. R, but not G are available year round, so many people get a greater share of their yearly iron from R than from G. e. R are often eaten in combination with other iron containing foods, while G are usually eaten themselves.
Please help me understand with logic on how to arrive at the conclusion. A example would be great!
Answer to follow soon.

B?
No. of calories from sugar are not counted in R, therefore the number of calories are fewer than grapes. Therefore, raisins contain more iron per calorie than grapes.

B.
Other choices are not relevant because we need relative figures not absolute --> iron per calorie.

This post received KUDOS
It's B and here's why:
Let's assume that we have a handful of grapes that contain the following: 5 grams sugar 5 gram protein 5 grams iron 40 calories ( 20 from sugar and 20 from protein)
So iron/calorie = .125
Now the sugar gets caramelized and since caramelized sugar cannot be digested, its calorie do not count towards the calorie contents of Raisins. Se we will have only 20 calories left. 5/20= .25 which is more than the grapes

Only choice B is correct. Another choice I look irrelevant and eliminate all of them, but thank Khalidb for detail explanation.

Not only this assumption, aren't we having 2nd assumption that sugar releases calories while eating raisins as well as grapes?

Answer to follow soon. OA is B, since OA was never provided by poster, so providing here. We have to assume that all the information is true in Premises. Let us consider all the statistics in the stimulus. Only Statistic here : Raisins contain more iron per calorie than grapes This means : Raisins have say 10 mg of iron/calorie and grapes have say 5 mg of iron/calories --------------[1] Now nothing has been stated about loss of iron, so assume that net iron content is same, say 100 mg in both grapes and raisins. Total calories * Iron/calories = Total Iron = 100 mg = Constant for both raisins and grapes ---------------------------[2] For raisins, Total Calories * 10 mg[Iron/calories from statement 1] = 100 mg ==>Total Calories from raisins = 10--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [3] For grapes, Total Calories * 5 mg[Iron/calories from statement 1] = 100 mg ==>Total Calories = 20 from grapes--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [4] From 3 and 4, we know that calories are lesser in raisins, so we need to find an option which justifies why calories obtained are less from raisins than grapes. And this difference is clarified only by B. HTH

Answer to follow soon. Very Good question. I reached B with POE. Stem says "that raisins contain more iron per calorie than grapes" B says caramelized sugar doesnt count towards calorie content. That means iron per calorie in raisins is greater than grapes. or Iron/Calorie is greater in raisins. That's possible when total calorie content of raisins is less. Thus B is correct.
