Retaking the GMAT at the end of October [#permalink] New post 12 Sep 2011, 13:58
I just took the GMAT on Saturday 09/10/2011. Ended up with a 650 (47Q,34v). I am planning on retaking by the end of October with hopefully enough time to get applications in by Rd. 2 deadline. Its pretty clear my verbal needs work, but I want to continue to strengthen my quant.

I took the Kaplan in class prep and used the basic Kaplan study guides (primarily books and quiz bank- Kaplan diagnostic 560) Also did most of the Quant questions in the OG 12. Looking into MGMAT books to strengthen verbal- especially SC and RC.

Any suggestions or recommendations are appreciated. Looking to break 700 and would be very happy with 730+

5+ years work experience (insurance) handling own clients for some time now (high profile risks)- Low undergrad GPA (2.74 General Business Major from State School)- Extra Curriculars are weak the past 5 years

Targeting- Emory, Georgetown etc. for finance/mgmt (am I within reach?)

Hello Chad,
I'd definitely recommend the MGMAT SC workbook and Powerscore CR bible. I used the Kaplan Premier (2009 version) and found the material not as difficult as some of the MGMAT material. The MGMAT Quant books are perfect for help with boosting your math score, especially since they come in different sections.
Firstly, based off of your practice tests, see which math content you're the weakest in. Get those books first.
In general usefulness though, I would rate them in this order:
1. Number Properties & Word Translations. The advanced section of these books have some good information.
***Also Advanced Quant book for strategies, tactics, and practice problems (but only get this if you're confident with the other math concepts). On the manhattangmat(.)com site you can find this book here: (storeitemshow.cfm?ItemID=380&catid=10)
2. Equations, Inequalities, and VICs. The advanced section of this book also has some good information.
3. Geometry (going through this book will take very little time).
4. Fractions, Decimals, and Percents (I didn't use this book, but if you're having problems with this content, you should get it).

Hope this helps!
