Oh gray area, bless your soul!
That is the eternal question, and the reason I left a pretty big gap. :-D

As an adcom, I would prefer a 1x 730 over a "550 then 660 then 750."

wouldn't you? think about that.

I agree Tarmac, it shows either that the person is intellectually gifted to score a 730 in one shot, or the person studied really hard over months, knew he was at the right level, and took it when he sees fit. Both positives.

On the other hand someone who first scores a 550 could be seen as someone that didn't care enough to study and just sat for the test without any preperation or understanding....actually thats the only reason for it. Because if you can score a 730 after a 550 then you obviously have the mental horsepower for it.

Which would YOU rather have?

Call it

730 one shot
or
760 three tries w/2 scores in the mid/high 600s

How about if it's 730,730,730?
Is that worse than 1x730?
Do you think consistency is worthless?
Or does it show stupidity?

chineseburned,

Don't worry about not improving. You have a 730 in the bag. Just try your best and no matter what happens, you still have the 730.

taking the GMAT 3 times with no improvement is a negative. Not a huge one, but it would be a negative for me. Adcoms want candidates that "take care of business and move on".

Adcoms know the explicit goal of retaking the GMAT is to improve. In one way, if you do not improve, you fail in that regard.

I hope I have to take the exam no more than twice because after that, I feel as if I have more pressure on me.
