1) Basic demographic info: age, gender, nationality
29, Male, Caucausian, West Coast
2) Educational Background: undergrad major, GPA, GMAT score, any grad work you've done
BA Business Econ from 2nd tier public school. 2.85 GPA, 4 failing courses, breaks in enrollment. No upward trend...just ugly.
Since then, 5 courses in calculus, derivatives, risk mgmt etc with A's to establish "alternative transcript".
I expect GMAT 750, 48 quant, 43 verbal or higher based on practice tests (test in 2 weeks)
3) Work experience: what is your current role? Have you had any promotions? What industry do you work in? For how long have you worked?
Sales and Trading with mid-tier investment bank (just below bulge bracket). 6 years experience. 2 promotions, increasing responsibility and excellent salary progression. Earned CFA charter and several FINRA designations. Letter of recs will be very strong.
4) Extracurriculars: do you participate in any extra-curricular activities? What is your role there? For how long have you been involved?
Weak here. I have put all my time into CFA, alternate transcript, GMAT prep etc in the last two years my free time has been next to nothing. I am involved in some trade organizations but no leadership roles.
5) Short/Long term goals: what do you want to do after your MBA? Any geographic preferences?
I will do a part time MBA. I want to continue to grow as a fixed income salesperson and further my knowledge of marketing, finance theory, soft skills and leadership. I want to become Managing Director of S&T or move to buy-side as portfolio manager. I plan to stay in CA in the near term, but down the road I may be open to moving to SFO or NYC.
6) Schools: Which schools have you considered already? Any on your initial short list?
Anderson, Marshall, UCI Merage all part time....May also apply to Haas part time, NYU part time
Preference is Anderson FEMBA, followed by Marshall MBAPM.
