Rob and David live 200 miles apart. Deciding to have a picnic, they both start driving at 9:00am traveling in a straight line towards each other. Rob drives at a steady speed of 50 miles per hour, and David drives at a steady speed of 30 miles per hour. What is the time when they meet for their picnic?

A. 11:30am
B. 1:00pm
C. 1:30pm
D. 2:00pm
E. 3:40pm

80T = 200
T = 2.5

I did an approximation to come up with the answer.

Rob will have driven half the distance in two hours (50 mph * 2hrs = 100 miles).

David will be at 60 miles iun the same time.

After 3 hours - Rob would be at 150 and David will be at 120 miles which means they would have crossed.

Hence, only possible answer is A.

A

effective speed = 50+30=80

time taken = 200/80=2.5 hours

so 9+2.5 =11.30 am

Assuming that neither of the two cross a time zone the answer should be (A).

r*t=d

50+30t=200
80t=200
t=2.5

9+2.5=11.5 (or 11:30)
