(Ross-Michigan) Low Highest Salary in Employment Report 2007 [#permalink]  07 Sep 2008, 06:57
I am interested in applying to Ross. While looking up through the placement report for year 2007, however, I noted the relatively lower (compared to Kellogg, Stanford, etc.) highest salaries as mentioned below. Would anybody know why this is so?

- Younger applicant pool? (I think not, as michigan is probably not known for recruiting too many young folks).
- Location?
- Reputation? (I believed it to be almost equally competitive with the ultra-elite group of schools).
- Others?

Though this hasn't still undone my decision to apply there (I still will) I am just curious about why the higher rankings have not translated to higher salaries.

Consulting $70,000–135,000 General Consulting$ 85,000–120,000
Strategy Consulting $70,000–125,000 Other Consulting$ 77,000–135,000
Finance $50,000–120,000 Corporate Finance$ 57,000–115,000
Investment Management $65,000–120,000 Investment Banking$ 50,000–110,400
Sales/Trading $95,000–95,000 Other Finance$ 90,000–105,000
General Management $90,000–110,000 Marketing$ 55,000–124,992
Operations/Engineering Management $90,000–105,000 Strategic Planning$ 70,000–130,000

Not to sound rough but generally the caliber of the folks at schools gets better each step up in rankings. Companies have to pay these people more and its more glaring when you look at the people at the very top where some make 50% more than the school averages. I wouldnt put to much weight in the top salaries it doesnt mean a whole lot to the average student at these schools.

However, I do not do profile reviews, don't offer predictions on chances and am far to busy to review essays, so save the energy of writing me a PM seeking help for these. If I don't respond to a PM that is not one of the previously mentioned trash can destined messages, please don't take it personally I get so many messages I have a hard to responding to most. The more interesting, compelling, or humorous you message the more likely I am to respond.

Thanks River. Would you have some ideas on what are typical salary increment timeline for folks working in management consulting and marketing areas. This is assuming there is no prior experience and one joins at the initial level. I mean what could one expect to get on joining and what could be growth and time-line for salary/designations.
