Here we go guys, yet another "what should I do?" question.

I just got into Michigan-Ross last week and am on cloud number 9. I also have a good chance at Chicago-PT (evening).

As a quick note, I am in healthcare finance and am trying to switch my career to consulting (management/strategic).
I am older candidate too (34 years young! :-D )

As a rule of thumb PT-MBA is said to be for career enhancers, not switchers. However in the open houses at Chicago, more than half
the students were switchers.

Ross is a great brand but Chicago is in the G7. However the letters "PT" dilute the "effect" of the name a bit. Financially, Chicago-PT will be easier to handle , since I will not have to forego my salary... My question is, for switching to consulting, do you guys think (or know) Chicago-PT will be as strong as Ross? I am very "in the middle" abou this...

Any opinion is welcome...

Thought I'd add my $.02 as I was investigating PT programs when I first started looking at an MBA. Chicago PT & Weekend and Kellogg's to be exact.

I'll be a career switcher as well.

One of the main factors that swayed me towards applying to FT programs was talking to students, especially at GSB. I was able to get connected to two students who started out PT and then switched to FT (which is no longer allowed at GSB as I understand, and is firmly not allowed at Kellogg). They basically told me the same thing - go FT. They said the programs in their minds were night and day, mainly due to the fact that you can fully dedicate yourself going FT and get more out of it, and thus reap more in the long term. The more I talked to PT and FT students, I began to feel that this was the case at both GSB and Kellogg.

I think the GSB PT is a great program and is perfect for a lot of people, but I think it is very different than a top FT program.

Manylander, a PT program can be the right decision in certain circumstances, but choosing a PT program just because it is at a UE(M7) school doesn't make sense to me.

Assuming financials are not an issue, I'd suggest Ross FT.

Thanks guys... It all confirms what I've been thinking. G7-PT, even though offering the same diploma, can not be as good as an Elite FT-MBA... Just wanted to hear a couple of fellow MBA buds' opinions...

I think it's Ross FT all the way. You should not underestimate the boost in the academic and life experience that the total immersion will give you.

Stephen M. Ross School of Business is a no brainer here

btw, do you know that the M7 phenomenom only exists on forums such as this one, and that only the Culumbia business school ever mentions it outside of the virtual world :) And the Columbia Business School is the worst of all the so-called M7 :)

Another consideration is whether you want to apply for a consultant / associate / whatever it's called at different firms/ position at age 36 when you graduate. Most your colleagues will be around 26-28 yrs old and your boss is likely to be 29-33.

I am fine with the age and young boss thing. That's the price I will be paying for a late start. Thanks to the 5 year green card process :?

Working for a younger boss at a challenging setting beats working for an ideally aged older one in a boring or monotonous one...
