Agree with our friend above. There is not that much difference between R1 and R2. That having been said, at Columbia it does give you a distinct advantage, so if it's a dream school, you might want to try and squeeze that in. Also there are schools with relatively later applications, like NYU, MIT, and you might want to see if you can reach those (If they appeal to you)

Columbia does not have a round system. The application process is on rolling basis so the sooner you apply the better it is. Although in round system for other schools you need to ensure that your application is strong for whichever round you opt for. Generally round 2 impacts the chances of getting admission. Essay editing is generally not that time consuming but we would advise you be comfortable and devote adequate amount in putting up essays. Candidates generally overweigh gmat’s importance although you should focus on all the aspects to make it in top schools.
