Round 1 Results BEFORE Round 2 Application Deadlines? [#permalink]

On the 2011 applicants thread a lot of people say they will apply to various schools in Round 2 depending on Round 1 results. From what I had read previously, I thought this would not be possible.
Am I mistaken, and we find out Round 1 results before the deadline for Round 2 apps?

It depends on the school. A lot of the top schools announced R1 results mid-December this past year. Since apps are due early/mid January, you would probably have to start your R2 essays/recs either way, but you could potentially save yourself the application fee based on R1 admits.
