Between C and E, rest do not have correct endings.
I believe E is more clear, but its a straight guess.

B and D are out for verb tense. determined = simple past, devoted should be simple past.
A is wrong, SC rule = to do it is always wrong just as "whether or not" is always wrong
Between C and E, E is less wordy and seems simpler.

I will go for D. For E to be correct, the sentence should read like -
Schliemann had determined at the age of seven to find the site of ancient Troy and devoted his subsequent career to that end.

devoted ... to that end ~ is idiomatic
Ex.
After failing the GMAT three consecutive times, Matt determined to break a 650 and devoted his subsequent study career to that end.

Late, but E.
A. devoted his subsequent career to do it - 'do' is extra.
B. has devoted his subsequent career to do that - verb tense problem
C. devoted his subsequent career to such an end - wordy
D. has devoted his subsequent career for that- verb tense problem
E. devoted his subsequent career to that end - clear, consise.RIGHT

Thanks Matt.
I chose E as well because it sounded idiomatically correct, but wasn't sure on that.
The moment I read the question, I started looking for "to do so", and didn't find any options, so I started looking for idiom.
