I was struggling between D and E.
I will go with D because it has proper prepositional phrase
modifying the ballet dancers.
In E the word "they" after the word "because" could refer to "eating habits"

I might be wrong here because opening a modifier phrase with a preposition "because" is not well accepted". But D is very attractive to me.

If you need why other choices suck ( if I am right ) then I will be glad to give an explaination.

I think people are like hungry hyaenas smelling the "verbal" carcass. They pounce on like there no tomorrow. Yeah I love that attitude :maniac

I choose E because D has illogical meaning of all setence for me.
So, I think E.

E: young female dancers and gymnasts = young female dancers and young female gymnasts
D: young female BALLET dancers and gymnasts = young female ballet dancers and young gymnasts

Apart from the above difference, the because-clause in D is the author's(writer's) explanation, whereas that in E is not.

Its very tough to choose between D and E but the omission of the word 'Ballet' tilts the favor in 'D' 's side.
