I think it is between A and B. I would choose A, as it conveys the meaning and shorter

Concur with A
C and D are out because among does not properly distinguish between 2 subjects
A's gerund form is better than B's wordier restrictive clause
To me, it boiled down to A and E but I think idiom is "distinguish between X and Y"

distinguish X from Y is also correct idiom. But in case of E the modifier "grazing" will apply to only the second element. In A "grazing" applies to both elements.

Gmatblast, that is exactly what I thought but I was afraid to put forth an untested theory. Where can you find of such obscure rules?

There is no place wher you can find such rules. It is just matter of practice and doing some research the way you do.

thats a nice catch. I was so confident on 'distinguish A from B' but the gerund messes up. Even I feel A is better than E... Thanks all.
