Hey guys
the question here is frm 885SC,. The OA is E but it seems 2 me that the ans. should be C. Ans. E violates the rule of modifier.

(D) In addition to the increase in hourly wages that were requested last July, the railroad employees are now seeking an expanded program of retirement benefits
(E) In addition to the increase in hourly wages requested last July, the employees of the railroad are now seeking an expanded program of retirement benefits

(A) "Added to the increase" is not an elegant expression.
(B) Same as A.
(C) "were" is passive, which should be avoided whenever possible.
(D) "were" is passive, and "that" does not modify "increase in hourly wages"
(E) "In addition to the increase in hourly wages requested last July" is elegant and succinct.

So E is the winner.
