A-"resulting from" should modify a noun, and in this case it's modifying "increasing";

C-first of all, if I had to choose between B and C, I would probably go for B because it's more concise! In addition, "as a result of" is used to establish a causal relationship: "...WERE SUFFERING...as a result of INCREASING" sounds awkward, you would rather say "...were suffering.. as a result of an increase...";

D/E- "the study revealed THAT"

I hope it helps, although it's always easier to make conclusions once you know the answer!

thx querio for the input!
it is always easy to justify when you know the correct answer! :-D
I gotta change my strategy of posting questions.

I actually think that "C" is wrong because:
....because of food supplies , which were dwindling... is ackward and wordy

assuming the rest of the sentence is Ok, it could be corrected as: ...because of dwindling food supplies...

but because we dont have this version, we go for B.

Well, when I know the answer, I can find every reason to justify it and discard the others :-D
