SC: Idiom - "so.....that" Versus "So......As [#permalink]

Can someone pls explain to me to difference when/how to use "So...That" Versus "So.....as to".
I've spent about 45 minutes do a search and going through older posts. I vaguely recollect an EXCELLENT explantion for the difference but cant see to find it. Can someone repost that post please or point me towards some material that explains the aforementioned.

Can anyone elaborate pls? I've done ample research and still cannot find the difference between [so.....that] Versus [as.....as to]
If someone can point me to another post i'd greatly appreciate it. I'm pretty sure i saw on elaborate explanation on this website. I just cannot find it.

I hope you can make something useful out of the following.
Idioms:
so as to
In order to: Mail your package early so as to ensure its timely arrival.
so that
a)In order that: I stopped so that you could catch up.
b)With the result or consequence that.
----------------
so that
In order that, as in I stopped so that you could catch up.
With the result or consequence that, as in Mail the package now so that it will arrive on time.
so ... that. In such a way or to such an extent that, as in The line was so long that I could scarcely find the end of it. All three usages date from a.d. 1000 or earlier, and the first two are sometimes put simply as so, as in I stopped so you could catch up, or Mail it now so it will arrive on time.

So + Adj / Adv+ that => Indicates result : He was so excited that he could not speak
So + Adj / Adv + as to do => To the extent that one does : In the Renaissance, painters were so impressed with Leonardo da Vinci as to ignore their own training and designate as a masterpiece anything he painted.
