Hi Experts,

Could anybody look into the following question:

Q: Scientists at the Los Alamos National Laboratory have succeeded for the first time in mining heat from the Earth’s interior and producing energy on a commercial scale, enough for efficient generation of electricity and heating factories and homes.
A. and producing energy on a commercial scale, enough for efficient generation of electricity and heating
B. and producing enough energy on a commercial scale for electricity to be generated efficiently and to heat
C. for energy production on a commercial scale, enough for generating electricity efficiently and to heat
D. to produce energy on a commercial scale, enough for generating electricity efficiently and for heating
E. to produce enough energy on a commercial scale for efficient generation of electricity and heat

For me B should be correct as the phrase 'mining heat from the Earth’s interior' and 'producing energy on a commercial scale' are parallel. But OA is D.

Thanks in advance.

IMO A

as
Q: Scientists at the Los Alamos National Laboratory have succeeded for the first time in mining heat from the Earth’s interior and producing energy on a commercial scale, enough for efficient generation of electricity and heating factories and homes.

words in bold should be in parallel, if u look on other choices
B) and to heat is not in parallel
C) same as B
D)to produce...., heating are not parallel
E) mining....to produce.....and heat are not in parallel
Remember it's "mining heat", which means mining is a verb
So the correct answer is A

Hope it helps!
Please! correct me if I am wrong as I am not an expert here.
Peace! :)

Guys! plz!! explain why D? I think "and for heating" is better option than "and heating". Any other detailed explanation would be great.

Parallelism is between "for generating electricity" and "for heating"

Scientists | at the Los Alamos National Laboratory | have succeeded for the first time | in mining heat | from the Earth’s interior | to produce energy | on a commercial scale, | enough for generating electricity efficiently | and for heating factories and homes.

In a simpler mode - Scientists have succeeded in mining heat to produce energy, enough for generating...and for heating...

In E, "for efficient generation of electricity" is not parallel with "heat factories and homes"

In D, "for generating electricity efficiently" is parallel with "for heating factories and homes"

Hope this helps
