Among art dealers after 1905, artistic rivals Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso were the most marketable painters alive.
A. Among art dealers after 1905, artistic rivals Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso were the most marketable painters alive.
B. Among art dealers, artistic rivals Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso were the most marketable painters alive since 1905
C. From 1905, artistic rivals Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso were the most marketable painters alive among art dealers.
D. From 1905 onward, art collectors found Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso, two artistic rivals, to be the most marketable living painters.
E. From 1905 onward, art dealers' most marketable living artistic rivals were Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso.
I dont like A/B/C because they give me the impression that Henri and Pablo were art dealers, when infact they were remarkable painters.
D changes art dealers to 'art collectors'.. I think they mean two very different things.
E is passive. Then, it also seems to potray that 'are dealers' were marketing only 'artistic rivals' and not painters who were remarkable.
My understanding of this sentence is that- These two painters were artistic rivals, but very remarkable . They were the favorites of art dealers...
I dont find any of the sentences portraying this meaning.... D is better than the others as far as the meaning is concerned.
