Need help!
Though the remains of some of the oldest hominid specimens have almost turned to stone as molecules of minerals have saturated the bone, most are not mineralized, only partially are so.

The correct choice is E. We need another helping verb "are" in passive voice and only E has that.

would be better if the sentence said:
mineralized not in full, only in part.

C. only partially
mineralized not fully, only partially.

D. or only in part
most are:
not mineralized
OR
only in part
meaning changes. Most are either not mineralized or are in part.

E. or are only partially
parallel:
most
are not mineralized
or
are only partially <mineralized-implicit>



Sentence wants to convey something like this:

100 Specimens found.
About 10 specimens are completely mineralized.
90 specimens:
EITHER are not mineralized at all
OR are mineralized to a certain extent only.

"E" conveys the correct meaning and is also parallel.

I recognized that there was an 'are' that was required for parellelism but unfortunately went with A. Clearly this cannot be the choice since being mineralized and being partially mineralized are mutually exclusive, thus the sentence requires an 'or' as well.

Answer: E
