Folks

I do not understand the OA
This question was already posted ( from Matt's list). Please send me the link
Can somebody explain why the correct option is not the one with "now generated" since the adverb "now" should be always close to the verb ( in this case "be")

thanks*********

54. There are hopeful signs that we are shifting away from our heavy reliance on fosil fuels; more than ten times as much energy is generated through wind power now than it was in 1990.
A....
B. generated through wind power now as it was
C. generated through wind power now as was the case
D. now generated through wind power as it was
E. now generated through wind power than was the case

First it is irritating to see a SC question without underlined part!

My explaination is as follow...this question test parallelism. and 'now' is parallel to '1990' and hence B is correct.

as much ...as

"now generated through" in D & E looks awkward.

"was the case" in C is not necessary.

I would go with B.

I see C !

need "as much as" so B, C, D survives

in B & D , "it" doesn't have a clear referrent as the immediate antecedent is wind power and not energy.

Good job
In fact contrasts : "now" vs " in 1990"

The proximity is needed for greater clarity ...
The OA is C
