school selection [#permalink] New post 16 Oct 2011, 10:26
Hello,
I have short-listed to the following schools:
Wharton Georgetown Rutgers
NYU Penn State Smeal Baruch
Harvard Boston University Temple
MIT Boston College Drexel
Yale
Tepper
Columbia
Princeton (MS in Finance)
Cornell (1 Year program)

How many should I apply to and how do I choose amongst these. I have already applied to Wharton, am applying to BU, and am definitely applying to NYU.
Thanks a lot!!

Hello anirudh316, thanks for your question.

There is no formula for how many schools to apply or which ones. I hesitate to make a recommendation knowing nothing about your profile! Wharton, BU, and Stern are all on different tiers, but without any information about you, I cannot evaluate where you stand within those tiers.

Best of luck,
Brian

Hello anirudh316, thanks for your follow-up.

I think your GMAT and your GPA are solid. Your competitiveness will come down to the quality of your leadership experience both in and out work. Can you draw upon “moments” when you truly led: influenced individuals and organizations, drove results, took initiative?

And, your business sounds interesting; it could differentiate you.

I think you are pursuing the correct strategy of shooting for some reaches (e.g., Wharton) and also applying to 2nd tier (e.g., Yale) and safer (e.g., Rutgers) choices. I advise most of my clients to do the same.

Best of luck,
Brian
