School Visit Dress Code [#permalink] New post 15 Sep 2011, 07:00
I have a rather simple, but silly enquiry. When attending school visits, what is the expected dress? Clearly some level of business attire would be expected but are we talking suit and tie or will a dress shirt and slacks work? Khakis or suit pants? A nice polo or a button down? As I am looking to make some school visits in the month of October I'd love some insight so I don't look like a total knob when I am on campus. Thanks for any help!

Well... when I visited Tuck for the summer event.. I showed up in Polo/Khakis with a colleague of mine and the rest of the toolboxes had on suits... so while I stood out I think they did also since the rest of the adcom and professor was in business casual. For just a campus visit .. I would go business casual... if interview/visit... suit. When you do a visit... it's not you selling yourself to the school but the school selling the program to you... so look presentable but don't go crazy is my suggestion.

I visited 4 schools and would say that the norm is khakis + button down shirt or Polo. Business casual -- nothing too formal.

The only people I saw in suits were people interviewing or visiting after work and already in that attire. Or maybe they were just clueless.

Make no mistake, the school is selling you, not the other way around.
