School visits and info sessions [#permalink] New post 02 Aug 2010, 14:19
Hi Scott,

Out of H/S/W/Chicago/Columbia, which schools care the most about whether I have visited the school, going beyond the official statement that school visits do not factor into admission decisions.

Is there a difference between info sessions and class visits as only info sessions seem to be offered during summer and class visits do not start before R1. Thanks.

I don't think that any of those schools stands out as caring notably more or less than the others when it comes to class campus visits. I always tell applicants that, if you really want to get into School X, then you need to find a way to visit School X. I frequently hear back things like "But I'm too busy" or "It costs a lot of money," but keep in mind that there are literally thousands of other applicants who may want it more than you do... Whom do you think the admissions office will admit? I would err on the side of assuming it matters.

There is certainly a difference between attending local info sessions or visiting the campus, regardless of what any school says. Yes, the R1 issue is a bit of a challenge since the deadline frequently comes before you can visit classes. But, your application is not locked in a vault after you submit it... If you submit your app and then visit later, that information may still make it into your app.

Good luck!
Scott
