Schools flying you out to visit [#permalink]
29 Oct 2007, 11:39
I recently got an offer from a school for to come out for an all expenses paid campus visit. Not an elite school by any means, but a top 30 school. They were one of the five schools I sent my GMAT score report to, and I did fairly well on the GMAT.
Just curious, does anyone else have any experiences of generous offers like this?

congrats!
No offers like that for me. At least I'm applying to mostly California schools.

Nothing like that for me either. Did the school know anything else about you besides your GMAT score? Had you already submitted the application?

All they knew about me was whatever information they get from the GMAT, I guess that may include my GPA (under 3), undergrad institution (Ivy), and GMAT score (over 700). I hadn't started the application or anything like that.

A GMAT score is very valuable for a lot of those trans-elite (And below) schools. We had a thread about "GMAT Whores" where we boasted about the emails that we were getting from those schools just based on our GMAT scores. However, I don't think any of us got even close to getting a free flight ticket from a school.

wow... did you send your scores to the said school? Maybe that's why they're flying you out for a visit.

What school is it? Maybe we should all be sending our scores to them. I'll spend the 28 bucks if they'll offer me a free flight and some food while I'm visiting. That is, of course, if its somewhere fun to visit.

Yale is flying me out to their diversity event (all expenses paid)...I am very excited about the event and about the fact that my wife won't be mad at me for paying more money to attend another event.

lanter1, could you make many pictures and write your impressions of the school? My friend is going to apply to Yale after she successfully (I hope) passes GMAT.

Yale pays for travel and lodging for all attendees to their diversity conference. Just wanted to clarify that in case anyone was confused. It's a bit different than a school specifically flying one person out. Yale has this because of a fund set up by an alum which is awesome. Most of the other schools only pay for lodging at their diversity event although Tuck has a stipend too.
