I chose C here...But I want to know y it cannot be E....E says "....that had lived in China" which means the dogs lived there, but aren't there anymore....But C also says ".....THAT LIVED IN CHINA" which means that the dogs lived there but we aren't sure if they still live there or not...AM I right? or have I missed something!!

I agree with you. It confused me too... Is there an official explanation why E is wrong?

I think E is correct.
The usage of past perfect tense is correct to me in this sentence.
Experts please explain.
