Scored 700 on GMAT, should I take it again? [#permalink] New post 19 Dec 2011, 15:22
Hi,

I scored a 700, but my quant was only a 44, and the verbal a 41. I know the quant score is low for me, but should I take the test again?

I am applying to top 15 schools for the January rounds. I have completed Columbia and Duke's applications already, but do you think it would be wise for me to take the test again within the next few weeks? I know the top schools prefer the 80%-80% breakdown, and currently I am at 70%-90%. Please let me know your opinion.

Thanks

Also, I was a Business Major at the University of Maryland's Smith School of Business, with A's in all math, statistics, finance, and accounting courses.

I also work for a large international stock exchange company.

I would not re take it ... a 700 score is an admirable one. if you have a strong profile and your essays are compelling you should not have any problems.

Hi zmaggin,

A 700 is a strong score, and it will not negatively impact your application. However, you should understand that on your application your GMAT score is self-reported, and you will record your highest score. Admissions teams will focus on your highest score, and because of this there isn't a downside to taking the test again if you feel you can greatly improve your score.

This being said you do have a strong score, and if you have to choose between spending time studying or working on other areas of your application, I recommend the latter.

Here is school specific advice for Columbia and Duke:
