scoring on IR

I have a general question on IR for anybody who might have some idea how the GMAT scores the IR portion.

In my case for questions with multiple choice (True/False) for each statement or Yes/No, I keep getting at least one question wrong out of 3-4 questions asked for a single passage. Does anybody know if the GMAT provides partial credits for the questions that I do get right out of the 3-4 questions asked per passage or does it take the one false one into account and does not give any credit for any of the questions for that passage.

I hope the question I am asking is clear. Is there any place where I can find out how GMAT scores the IR questions. I know IR should be the least of my worries but then I also don't want to get a score of 0 or 1 out of the 12 questions.

Hi Pikachu,

Here are my few cents:

No GMAC doesn't give partial credit.. you have to get all 3 right to get the question as correct.. even if one subquestion is wrong.. its WRONG..


Regarding attacking IR questions.. try not to do all the questions if you are getting all wrong.. its better to focus on 6-7 and get 4-5 right than to get nothing right.. as you will get more and more rights you will grow in confidence and realize that IR is nothing but what you actually know.. its a mix of Quant and verbal.. that you already know.. look from this positive perspective and you will easily conquer IR.. also keep a track on which type of IR questions are easier for you and which are difficult..

Like for me multi source seem tough.. so i skip them altogether.. and do the rest 9 questions in 30 min and get atleast 7-8 rights... n it works for me most of the time.. :-)

no problem.. more than glad to help..

yea there are loads of resources.. almost every test prep company provides free sample IR questions.. and you can takes some test series.. MGMAT is best.. u get 5 Kaplan online test and some additional questions with KAP Primer which is around 20 dollars so not at all expensive..

But here is one point that i noticed when i actually wrote the GMAT.. GMAT IR was very easy compared to these materials.. GMAT Prep + 50 online questions matches the most that i saw on actual gmat.. not that tough..

You can try some IR questions in the below link.

As mentioned above, there is no partial credit. The 4 question types will appear in random order. Each test taker may experience a different order. Some may see a graphics question first - others may see an MSR question first. There is no adaptive nature to this portion of the test. The adaptive part is only for the main quant and verbal sections.
