Is there any chance I could get the moderator to give me 2 pads at the start of the test? I know i'm going to use them....EMPOWER requires it!

Hi thompstc,

The center official will not give you two scratchpad at once. You will have to ask for another after you have finished one.
If you are worried about the time loss (which will not happen) then you can ask for the change of scratch pad while you are coming back from the break.

All the best for the test!

Hi Travis,

The Test Center will give you just one pad at a time, BUT you can exchange it for a new one at ANY time during the Exam (including during your breaks). Since the pad is rather big (and it's 6 laminated sheets, double-sided), you could very easily take your entire Test on just one pad. However, if you're planning ahead, then you should exchange your pad for a new one during the second break (between the Quant and Verbal sections). Just make sure to take the pad out of the lab with you and the Center Staff will give you a new one.

Re: Scratch Pads [#permalink]
i never needed actually additional scratch pad...
1 used for AWA & IR
changed -> 1 used for Quant. before i wrote everything, the guy was already near me with another pad
after break - again changed
verbal - never needed more than 1 pad.

it is good to organize your pad during the break...
especially for SC
write
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.
and then A/B/C/D/E - so it would be easier to cross out...
i found it very efficient to save time.

Re: Scratch Pads [#permalink]
thanks thompstc for this thread.

I want to learn about this pad thing.
What is it like?
I read it's an erasable notepad.
So why the replacement since you can wipe it off?

I went to my test centre the other day, and those mean hearted girls had the ruthlessness to tell me about some godforsaken company policy; they couldn't show the good notepad before the exam day!

What & what should I expect about the notepad?
is it grided? Will I do some work on it b4 exam kicks off?
I'll appreciate explanation.

It is not erasable.
Surely you can work on it without any apprehensions provided you concentrate on exam.
This is how it appears.

Wait a little.
@thompstc's initial question got me rereading the thread.

So it's actually one of those pads u get?
Then you need to hang your left hand in the air.
I now see why people get different reactions after their first GMAT as regards their prep CAT scores.

This is why people get one from Amazon and practice mocks on that pad only.

Hi shauryahanda,

The standard Test Center policy is to give you a new note-pad whenever you request one (although you will have to hand-in the pad that you are working on to receive a new pad). If you request a new pad WHILE you are in the middle of the Exam, then you will have to wait for the Moderator to get to you (which could take a minute or two) and the clock will keep ticking on your Test. As such, it's often best to request a new pad while you are on your 'break' between sections. It's certainly possible that if a Test Facility is 'low' on note-pads for some reason, then that facility might have a different policy (so you might want to confirm this issue with the Moderator before you enter the Computer Lab on Test Day.

Since you're asking about Test-Day specifics, are you close to your Official Test Date? How have you been scoring on your CATs/mocks and what is your Goal Score?

Yes! You can definitely ask and I don't think that should be a problem.

Hi shauryahanda,

While you likely will be provided with a clean pad during your break, you certainly can ask the proctor just to be certain. Also, keep in mind that if for any reason you need a clean pad while you are in the middle of a section you can raise your hand and the proctor will allow you to swap out your old pad for a new one.

You can raise your hand whenever you need a scratch pad during the test. And asking in advance is always good as you don't have to wait for a new one in case you have used up the entire pad.
