Scratch paper question - GMAT - 1 day [#permalink] New post 29 May 2008, 18:31
Alright guys so I take the GMAT in a couple of days and havent really given much thought to appropriate scratch paper usage until now.

So from what I have read thus far, it seems like you get a laminated booklet to use as scratch paper. I have been practicing with the MGMAT one so I have familiarized myself with that medium.

My question is for the people that write out timing benchmarks and a progress grid how do you go about it?

I have been writing them out on the first page, but for instance for math I end up using the whole booklet and is such a time/momentum killer to flip back to the first page to look at your timing guide or to tally your progress even for Verbal.

Does anyone have a better alternative? or do something different in terms gauging progress and timing accordingly?

I multiple in my mind current question by 2 and add left minutes. the result has to be less than 75 (~70 in Verbal)

For example, 17 question, left 37 mins: 17*2+37=71 - I'm at normal pace.

That is funny. If I try to do that, I will have a brain hemorrhage during the practice test, let alone the real thing.

Me too! For Math I think that for every 15 min interval I should be greater than the applicable multiple of 7.

For instance 60 mins remaining > 7
45 mins > 14
etc...

And for verbal I do the same but with multiples of 8. This usually keeps me on pace.

Do any of you guys use a progress grid for verbal? To tally how much of each questions type you have seen (RC, CR, SC) so when you are in a time crunch you have a better estimate of what to expect.

If so how do you this, what is your approach? And how do you utilize the scratch paper.

Sorry for rehashing an old thread, just curious to see if any uses a progress grid, and if so how do you set it up? Does anyone even discern any benefit from this method? thanks!

i go with 2 check points only at 1/3 of qs.
for quant : Q 13 Time left 50 min ; Q 26 time left 25 min.
For Verbal : Q14 Time left 50 min ; Q 28 time left 25 min.
