Seeking Advice for EMBA in Canada [#permalink] New post 27 Apr 2012, 16:57
Dear Forum members

I am a Sr. Manager working for one of the banking giants at Toronto. I have 11 yrs of work experience with 6 years in different management roles. I took GMAT earlier this month and got 670 with 5.0 (Analytical writing).

I am looking for advice from fellow members on major pros and cons b/w Queen's, Schulich and Ivey's EMBA programs.

Based on my research on web i found that Schulich (The Kellogg-Schulich EMBA) is rated higher than other EMBA's. However I do not have any acquaintance (in my network) with anyone enrolled in EMBA there. I did attend Queen's EMBA orientation but I was not completely convinced.

My post MBA goal is to continue in Information Technology and seek senior management/executive positions.

Any advice/suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Sri

Hi Sri,

Selecting between strong EMBA programs should really be done based on your career goals and then finding the program with the best fit. Just asking for a comparison between programs with the frame of reference of your career goals will not be very helpful. If you reach out to the folks at any one of the programs you mention I am sure that they will all be very pleased to answer specific questions about possible "fit" with your goals.

Just one quick observation to share with you regarding two of the programs you mention. The Kellogg-Schulich EMBA program is a joint degree program while the Cornell-Queen's EMBA program is a dual-degree program. What that means is that graduates of the Kellogg-Schulich program do not receive the same Kellogg MBA degree as Kellogg awards the graduates of their own, independent, EMBA programs. Instead, you get a single MBA degree jointly awarded by Northwestern and York universities. In contrast, graduates of the Cornell-Queen's EMBA earn two separate MBA degrees: one from Cornell (identical to the degree awarded to graduates of Cornell's independent MBA and EMBA programs) and one from Queen's (also identical to the grads from their other programs). I hope this bit of information is helpful.

Best wishes for your studies and your career,

Danny
