Seeking advice on PhD App with no research experience [#permalink] New post 15 May 2008, 07:04
I plan start doing PhD in Accounting in fall 09 at university in USA. Here's my profile
Undergrad GPA 3.86, Major GPA (Accounting) 4.00 from university in SE Asia (Top 2 in the country)
GMAT 750 Q51 V39
No research experience
No Master Degree
Have done some final projects in final year at college, but not a research
Working in Big4 for 9 months
Admitted to be an accounting lecturer, expected to start in July 08

With this profile, could you guys recommend any schools that I should give a try? I plan to submit to approx 10-15 schools.

Your profile seems pretty competitive. What drives the school choice more should be your research interest, rather than your stats.

Where are you from? Singapore?

I'm not from Singapore though.
Further question:
- I do have some broad research interests in my mind, but I'm pretty flexible to research interest. If possible, could you please list some schools that I should target at. I admit that I don't know much about good accounting schools for PhD student, so I don't know where to start now.

What you should do is this: look for recent papers in accounting journals based on your broad interest... see who are the authors and where they are from. That should give you can an initial list of school to start with. Do the same for accounting conferences - look at those people whose presentations interest you.

Take this as a dry run for doing research...
