IMPORTANT:
A number of schools do not require you to send your official score reports of the GMAT and the TOEFL during your application process. You are only required to send the official score reports (that is, get the testing agency to send official score reports on behalf of you) if you are admitted. Official reports are required only as part of the post-admission verification process.

I'm realizing this only now. Had I known this before I took my GMAT and TOEFL I would not have chosen to send my score reports to the schools I did. Turns out that these schools require score reports only once you are granted admission. Instead I could have sent it to schools that require the official reports before the application (although I haven't searched and found out which schools require this).

Did anyone use this technique?

Edit: I'll post a list of schools (as I do my research) here that require/do not require official score reports before the application deadline.

    Tepper (Carnegie Mellon)
    IE - since no deadlines the official reports should be submitted along with app

Please let me know in the comments about schools you have come across that require/do not require score reports. I'll add them to this list. You should be absolutely certain of the info, either by way of correspondence with the admissions committee or if it is explicitly stated on the website.

I believe most schools will accept the GMAT score a few weeks after the deadline. However, you must submit the app before the deadline, and your application will only be evaluated after the school receives your official gmat score. I believe that all the top schools require the official GMAT score before they shortlist you for the interview. It is only the academic transcripts that some schools are willing to defer until they offer admission.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Check this page for an example:https://www.darden.virginia.edu/web/MBA/Admissions/Application-Process/Requirements/
This is from Darden's application requirements. It states very clearly "You may self-report the scores directly into your online application. If offered admission, you will need to send official documents. However, offers of admission are not binding until official scores are received."
I think this means that you can hold off from spending extra on sending out official score reports until you are actually offered admission.

I believe Chicago Booth requires a copy of the official report to be received before the round's deadline.

Valid as in?

If you still take the gmat today you can select upto five schools which will recieve your score provided you accept it

If we have this info, we can maximize the opportunity of sending score to 5 schools during the GMAT exam, the schools which need official score prior to offering admission.
This way we can at least some money.( :shh: )

select your schools carefully and reduce expenditure :)

Yes. This is valid for some schools. Go to the website of the schools you are interested in and you should be able to find this information. For example, I see the following information on Darden's website

We do not require official test scores in order to process your application and get it to the committee for review. You may self-report the scores directly into your online application. If offered admission, you will need to send official documents. However, offers of admission are not binding until official scores are received. If discrepancies are found between self-reported and official scores, the offer of admission will be withdrawn.

I have made some changes to the first post to make it more accurate and indicate that Kellogg no longer offers to apply without sending an official score report.

Interesting enough, many schools have been offering test waivers. So we will see how things progress this application season with gmat policy.

Might be worth updating this list every year. So far, only tepper seems to continue to insist on the score. Ross, Fuqua, Kellogg and Booth no longer require it before the deadline, only prior to admission
