A/C. Even though it is passive, OA please ?

Go with C.

The usage of colon is only correct in C IMHO.

It's E

All other solutions have errors:
(A) parallelism (was, helping)
(B) "they" refers to whom?
(C) definitely unclear
(D) it seems that the composer was published in 1988

I was actually unsure of the usage of a colon..but here is what I found

Semicolons are normally used, but the colon adds emphasis, especially if the first clause leads into the second clause or has a parallel construction

So the use of a colon here adds emphasis that "Maple Leaf Rag" helped established Joplin; in addition, the sentences are || that is why E is the best answer
