(A) --> suggest 'maple leaf rag' was selling several thousand copies....awkard.
(B) --> says the publication of maple leaf rag was an instant hit, not maple leaf rag itself.
(C) --> helping to establish scott joplin was the sale, not the publication.
(D) --> order is wrong. should have the sale coming first.
E is the best choice. It says maple leaf rag was published in 1899, it was an instant hit selling hundred thousand copies in 6 months thus establishing scott joplin as the preeminent ragtime composer.
