Thanks all for this wonderful resource of a forum!
I have been banging my head against the wall while reading this fine forum for weeks now since I cannot decide what to do and where I should apply.
Here's my stats:Soon to be 33
Worked in IT since age 21, now Director of IT for a tech company of 350 employees.
Just earned by BA after many false starts due to marriage, kid, divorce, etc.
Studying for the GMAT now, and taking a review class for a month before sitting for the exam. I am not quite sure how I will score. After working on the Princeton Review book, I feel that I am capable of doing well.
GPA: 3.5ish across all schools attended (4 total, starting in '93)
GPA from graduating school: 3.52
I graduated from an accelerated program which meant that I was a full-time student for the past 14 months while working in my current position.
What I want to do:Move. I live in po-dunk Ohio. My current plans have me headed for the DC area. However, if I can gain acceptance to a better school I am not opposed to moving elsewhere.
I want to get into management or finance at a large tech-oriented firm. I would also accept an IT management consulting position.
So, what do you all think? Am I relegated to part-time mba programs, or
is something like Georgetown or UoM-Smith within my reach?
Gosh, I think you sound pretty interesting. I am assuming there's a worthwhile story behind the fits and starts for undergrad (not like my dad - too much pot, little maturity; it took him three times and his story wouldn't make a good admissions essay). You've done very well in your career. You're a little older than most students, but not much. You want to switch functions but not industries - that's a good reason to get a degree. Can you make them believe that this goal is well thought-out and one you're capable of doing? If you can do well on the GMAT, and convince them you need this degree, you seem to have all the parts in place.
That's my take.
