It is D,

The sentence is about AN EVENT that caused..., therefore we can quickly get rid off answers "A", "B" and "E".
"consider TO BE" is redundant, so answer "C" is out.

I almost fell for A!
I was to quick to conclude that the sentence is better with consistent subject.
But yes, it is true that computer can never be an event.
