Do schools ever act on a score sent to them from a person who has not submitted an application? Be it a phone call, literature, etc? Or is sending a score only considered when there is an accompanying application?

The GMAC releases the "official" score to the school electronically. I assume the schools receive a score report with the all the identifying information the GMAC collects and the school adcom connects the dots.

I've known people to get postcards inviting someone to apply when a score is sent without an application (typically lower ranked programs, 20-50 ranked schools).
