B. Rivaling the pyramids of Egypt, the army of terra-cotta warriors is more than 2,000 years old and took 700,000 artisans more than 36 years to complete it .

C. Rivaling the pyramids of Egypt, the army of terra-cotta warriors is more than 2,000 years old and took 700,000 artisans more than 36 years to complete.

Placed in the above contexts, I would say C should be the answer. I honestly do not see any reason for tagging the 'it' at the end of the sentence.
