Shall I put 3.5 yr WE or 5.5 yr WE? [#permalink] New post 28 Jan 2009, 16:03
I am an IT applicant, 29 male. Do you think 5.5 yr WE is a disavantage?

I ask the question because I have two options now in my resume. I did a two year traineeship program in an Europe University. The traineeship was a job, and we were all full-time employees of the university. On the other hand, it is basically a two-year doctorate-level engineering degree program, according to the university. So it is no problem if I move the traineeship from my WE to my educations, thus have only 3.5 year of WE by now on my resume (2 in China and 1.5 in Europe).

I think there may be two advantages of doing so:

1. My shorter WE in Europe explains why I haven't be promoted yet here.

2. My shorter WE doesn't make me look too experienced in my current career, which I actually intend to change after the MBA.

What do you think? Shall I count the traineeship as the education or the WE? thanks a lot!

What will be a disadvantage is trying to spin and overly position something. What is a disadvantage is if the adcom suspects that you may be trying to misrepresent something - because it then ruins the credibility of everything else you say.

Yeah don't spin it, tell it like it is. Make sure you demonstrate strong initiative and leadership in your work. It's not quantity of experience, it's the quality that matters the most.

Thanks. I do appreciate all your kind replies.

I will try my best to explain and represent it accurately and clearly on my resume. You are right, I should not worry too much about which section it belongs to; it is in my resume anyway. Thanks
