share your experiences on social networking tools, tks [#permalink] New post 27 Jun 2009, 14:36
I am not that enthusiastic in social networking thing, unlike some people who check facebook everyday, I log in there around once per month. I know I might need to adapt to the tech world to improve my networking skills.
1, is facebook, twitter or linkin enough? I mean, too many social networking applications would drive me crazy.....I prefer as less social networking tools as possible, but not sure which are essential and more effective in networking for a business school student.

2, I guess there are two functions for these social networking applications (besides just for fun): a), expose yourself to potential recruiters; b) keep updated with the news of the recruiters you have interest…….is that all?

How do you guys implement the objectives? For example, I have a twitter account, but I do not know where the account of m interested company is and I do not know where the HR people’s account is, and I have a facebook account, besides get information from my classmates, I do not know what else facebook can do to improve my networking and job seeking.

Please share your stories and experiences on social networking here, any commend will be appreciated; I believe it is a fun topic. Thanks

I am with you and so is HBS.

Apparently nobody twits: http://blogs.harvardbusiness.org/cs/200 ... follo.html

As to facebook - i do not have an account and not planning to get one - it is just another thing to do and check and I am already short on time. I think I am the old generation though. Today's 20-something are multi-taskers with a need for instant updates and information so i think the facebook model fits them much better.

Professionally, I find linkedin to be good enough. It's a great way to store contact info and keep up on what your contacts are doing.

It's also a great way to see if someone you know, knows someone you WANT to know!
